Hornby’s Grant Tregoning won the Moore Park Easter Challenge by out riding Larry Ross in the final.
Ross again gated well and lead through the first half of the race with Tregoning chasing hard. On the start of the third lap Tregoning moved wide and raced on the outside of Ross before he pulled away exiting the following turn. Ross never gave up but had no answer for Tregoning. There was no excuse this time and none offered as this former international rider congratulated Tregoning.
It is an impressive list of achievements at home this year and Tregoning needs to go overseas to further develop as a speedway rider. He has the ability and talent which needs to be enhanced further. John Ross finished 3rd while Chris Jemmett returned to the track for a one off ride and impressed. He won both the C and B finals before finishing 4th in the A’s. Fitness a little underdone but what a superb display.
If only more of our past riders would come back now we have a proven race track in Christchurch and join Larry Ross and Craig Blackett, the competition would undoubtedly increase and that must be good for the sport in general. Simply filling the place with more riders must inspire some of the younger boys.
Anthony Knowles won the junior class from Shilo Tocher while Paleti Woods picked up his first sash finishing in 3rd. Karl Ostomy and Shay Sutherland won the sidecar challenge from Lionel Green and Aaron Ray with Liam Stockman and Blair Lock 3rd. Paul Whitcombe and Jade Alsop made up the small field which provided some of the most exciting racing of the day.
ATV’s rode in support and the in house win went to Pete Collins from Blenheim from Rollestons Alistair McRae by one point. 3rd home equal one point back was Ian Hammond and Greg Lyall.
