The Poole Castle Cover Pirates consolidated their position at the top of the Sky Sports Elite League with an impressive away win against defending league champions Coventry.
This was Pirates sixth away win of the current league season and the 56 – 37 scoreline underlined their superiority throughout the match. Magnus Zettetsrom and Chris Holder got the Pirates off to a dream start with a 5 – 1 win in the opening race, but Coventry refused to roll over and had forced their way back on to level terms at the half way mark.
Pirates team manager Neil Middleditch was more than pleased with the result “ Another great performance from the team” he said “ and one which keeps us on top of the league table. It might not have been a classic match, but a win is a win and I am more than happy with the result.”
MIddleditch’s men responded immediately by completely outgunning their opponents for the remainder of the match, outscoring the Bees by 19 points in the second half of the match. Pirates superiority can be judged from the fact that they supplied 11 of the 15 race winners. Bjarne Pedersen was in great form, scoring 14 points from his five starts, with his only defeat coming in his opening ride of the night. He received some great support from Magnus Zetterstrom with 11, and Freddie Eriksson, who scored 10 points from the reserve berth.
This result also went someway to erase the memory of the 32 – 58 Craven Shield semi final defeat handed out to them when the two clubs last met at the Midlands track at the beginning of May.
