World Junior Speedway: Woffinden Leads Young Lions Into World Cup.

Silver Ski Rocket Tai Woffinden will captain the Great Britain U-21 team for the first time on Saturday as the Young Lions compete in the semi-finals of the World Junior Cup.

Great Britain won the Silver medal in last year’s event, but their preparations this time around have been hampered by last weekend’s unfortunate injury to Adam Roynon, who suffered a broken leg in the Rye House-Birmingham Cup match. King’s Lynn’s Simon Lambert has been named to replace the Furness Flyer, and takes his place alongside Woffinden, Lewis Bridger (Eastbourne), William Lawson (Edinburgh) and Ben Barker (Stoke).

The Young Lions face competition from Sweden, Russia and host nation, the Czech Republic. The winning team from the round will automatically qualify for the World Final, which is being staged at Holsted in Denmark on September 21st.

The second semi-final is being held at Diedenbergen in Germany on June 22nd. Competing in that round are Germany, Slovenia, Australia and defending champions Poland. Once again, the round winners will qualify for Holsted, with the other two places allocated to hosts Denmark and the highest scoring runners-up from the two semi-finals.
