On a day that was made for mums , weather wise you couldn't have asked for better.A large turnout saw fourty one riders take to the track on this meeting that was set aside as the Mothers day meet.

I was on the mike doing the "commentating!" and as usual I didn't let the trendsetters down and completely rearranged almost every kids name that raced today, once again my humble appologies to all concerned.

The ref for today was a new comer to the sport called Gary Nichols ,who did a great job first time up,well done Gazza.Actually well done to all the voullenteers who did a great job as well.

The Parade lap got the meeting started where all bikes were presented to the ref for scruiteneering and picking of best presented bike for each team and points and the winners were.

For the Hornets , Mathew Snowden. For the Orions , Emily Makepeace . for the Blackhawks , Robbie Vella.

First up to race were the Tiny tots and five of these future champs fronted the tapes and went racing. The look on these little faces as they pass that chequered flag is priceless. Those competeing today were Jayln Hach , Malaya Hach , Emily Makepeace , Emma Nichols and new boy Daniel Morton.

Division seven and six riders including two new riders  faced the tapes. Some close racing , with wins distibuted throughout this division made for good racing. this div was taken out today by Daniel Nicholls over a draw between Holly Greenhalgh and Mathew Snowden for second and third going to Kaeden Langham over New boy Jake Hayes. The other new rider was Connor Hayes.

In division six , Mathew Hurley had a day to remember , as backmarker , with a unbeaten ride for maximum points and a big win.
Right behing him with five consecutive seconds was Joshua Carden followed by Jake Kerley and Whitney Jones.

Division five saw Braden Makepeace continue his winning ways and dominate the half a dozen other riders in this division with an unbeaten maximum score over Plymouth Christian's five straight seconds with third going to Tiana Debattista over Jake Mathews.

Division four had seven starters including a new rider Chloe Hayes. Josh Debattista ,who won the South Australian title ,again , in this division ,didnt really raise a sweat on his way to a maximum over a very consistent Robbie Vella over Marc "The Scar "Mastrodomenico and a draw for fourth with Austin McDonald and Angus Elliot on 5 a piece.

In division three , the first of the 26" bikes , saw some great close racing as the scores indicate. Jay Walters pulled off the win with (18) just one point over Dean Jolly (17) and a further point away Anthony Daniels on(16)

Over thirties saw John Hill score a win over Darren Mathews and Frank Jones , who informs us "Goldenrod" is getting a makeover.

In division one and two some surprising results saw riders picking up the pace and spots and getting great wins.Nigel Greenhalgh took out div one , only dropping a point along the way and Matt Mathews (both riders new state champions in their divisions)repeat the ride in div two.

Tony Bax has been riding exceptionally well lately and picked up a nice second, well done tony , keep it up!His brother Daniel picked up third over Tyrone Walters.

The Mothers Day race was inserted in the program and it looked like shenanigans were about when Glynis Hurley fronted up complete with a riding crop, intimidating all and sundry,I noticed even the ref didn't go anywhere near her when protests fell on deaf ears.

Eight mums lined up at the tapes for the start and believe me it was so noisy that they couldn't hear me over the PA system asking for quiet for the start! it sounded like a Chinese fish market! Plenty of pushing and shoving on the grid delayed the start until all mums were quiet(?) and still.

Eventually after TWO refs settled them down and took away weapons and whips etc. in readiness for the start of this much anticipated single lap dash.Speaking of readiness the St Johns staff ,headed by Paul Carden , had stretchers ,Oxygen ,First aid kit , Blanket And all other medical aides laid out over the infield just in case one of these athletes? had a high speed(?) crash.

The mums finally settled at the tapes and they were put under starters orders, The tapes flew up and all hell broke loose!

Mums were flying everywhere except my missus , Mandy and Cherry Walters. The reason being the mum's were racing their kids scooters, not bikes , and Cherry has stood there at the start with her foot firmly on Mandy's brake pedal.Eventually they all started racing(?)

So many lead changes in one , one lap race! hair pulling ,name calling and pushing shoving and cheating were par for the course.Cherry even ran all the way (all the way to half track and ran across the infield to cross the finish line only to colapse in an exhausted heap on the infield).

Other riders to impress were the winner Mandy Daniels , second Bonnie Chadwick , third Jade Snowden and fourth was Lee Kerley.
Sally Mathews found the field too strong , Glynis Hurley is probably looking for a shorter race after a spell , Cherry Walters looks like facing the stewards after some mid race problems and Cheryl Calwell should be seeing the stewards to see if they can see!

A massive Mothers Day raffle was held with so many prizes, and it is great to see those members who donated and those who did both donating and buying tickets , enjoying themselves and the day.A very popular BBQ topped off the day along with a couple of coldies later on the day was complete.......................til next year!

Some of the cheering was very funny , some unrepeatable , the best and loudest was the mum's kids , all you could hear them yelling was the exact same thing the mums yell all year long............inside mum.....inside!
