With beautiful weather and a warm welcome from the people of MC Parchim, the strong international rider field came together for the second round of the International Mefo Sport Flattrack Cup 2008!
The old 700m sand track in Parchim proved quite a challenge, and most riders reverted back to their lighter bikes, still warm from the short track in Güstrow! Only Tom van Nes remained faithful to his monstrous Supertrapp Harley-Davidson XL1200R, holding on at times as a real bull fighter!
On the other hand, the motocross star from Berlin, Jens Hinrichs on his GST-racing KTM, felt right at home in these rough conditions. He soon found himself challenging the regular riders for the lead. But at the end of the day it was CCM works rider Marco Belli who took highest honors and extended his lead in the cup. Jens Hinrichs managed second in the all-deciding Grand Final, right in front of British Suzuki Works rider Peter Boast, who also claimed his second podium this season.
Bad luck continued to haunt Dutch-Brothers front man Jan-Willem Jansen. After breaking his clutch right before the final during the first round in Güstrow, he again suffered mechanical problems in Parchim, causing him to miss the final all together.
After a break, in which a small group of continental riders will compete in the second round of the Short Track UK series in Amman Valley, South Wales and of course the Flattrack of Nations in Mühldorf Germany on the 29th of June, the cup will continue with round 3 in Marianske Lazne, Czech Republic on July 12th.
We hope to welcome you all in Mühldorf where all the best riders will represent their countries in the biggest flat track event this side of the Atlantic!
