Polish Cycle Speedway Team Torun won the European Club Championship at Leicester last weekend after what turned out to be a very lengthy and time consuming qualifying process.

With qualifying starting on the Friday morning, a large number of UK Teams were either unable or unwilling to take part and in the end only 11 UK Teams participated with a further 6 representatives from Poland.

As expected Edinburgh failed to make it through the initial qualifying rounds.  However, a great many lessons have been learned to build on for the future.

A measure of the switch in balance of International Cycle Speedway was evident in the Final, which was held on the Sunday, as it finished a Polish 1, 2, 3.  Torun took the title in a run off from Leszno with Bydgoszcz a very close third. The UK’s only representative in the Final, Wednesfield, finished a distant fourth.

Back to domestic matters and the next home match at Redbraes for Edinburgh is a Northern League fixture this Sunday (11th May) v Stockport.  Tapes up at 2pm.
