The British rider and Isle Of Wight team captain regained the NZ Solo
title on Saturday 23rd February.

Bunyan went through the meeting unbeaten to win his 4th NZ crown. The Oreti Park speedway track, the most southern track in the world, was to Bunyan’s liking. “a well prepared bikes only circuit is essential for good training and with tracks likes this” he said, “ you will develop good riders”.

Bunyan led home the veteran rider Larry Ross from Christchurch who is really enjoying his return to the track. He has been an inspiration to the
younger riders and giving them some help. It is starting to show,
although Ross is still racing to win. Defending champion Andrew Bargh
from Hastings survived the run off for third with Invercargill’s Alex
Cunningham who put in some outstanding rides. His Oreti team mate Andrew Tree came home in fifth place.

The 16 rider 20 heat format saw each round of racing bringing up a new exciting line up as the unbeaten riders came head to head or someone who had dropped a point aimed to regain one or two which would result in spoiling the chances of others.

The 2007-08 NZ Solo Champs will go down in history of one of the best of recent times. It had some excellent weather, a big crowd in attendance and the racing was exciting, intriguing as the meeting wound down. Some thrills and spills, the glory of a another title won and a new champion crowned plus personal achievements by many participants. However the following days were filled with sadness at Andrew Tree’s sudden passing.
