Buck Blair and Ricky Wells led the Industry Aces to a 38-34 victory over the host Victorville Vikings for their second win in the Major Speedway League and Joe Jones and Jimmy Olsen captured the Sidecar National Championship at Wheel2Wheel Raceway in Victorville.
The evening began with consecutive drawn heats with Blair and Ryan Fisher earning race wins. Blair and Greg Ayers scored a 4-2 for Industry, but Max Eddy and Steve Bowen answered with a Viking 4-2 to tie the score at 12.
Wells and John Marquez earned a 4-2 that was followed by Fisher and Blair getting race wins in back-to-back drawn heats. Wells and Ayers combined for a 4-2 heat that was followed by consecutive drawn heats that were won by Blair and Wells, respectively, to make the score 32-28 in favor of the Aces with two races left .
Steve Dziadus and Allen Doss paired for a 5-1 to clinch the match victory for the Aces with one race to spare. Eddie Castro and Dale Facchini earned a 5-1 for the Vikings in the nominated heat to make the final score 38-34 in favor of the Aces.
Castro and Blair were one-two in the first Rider of the Night Semi and transferred to the Final. Wells held off Fisher in the second semi as both moved onto the Final.
When the tapes went up in the Rider of the Night Final, Blair trapped the field from the outside with Fisher immediately giving chase. Fisher remained low and would gain ground on Blair in the corners, but the leader used the banking to surge ahead on the straights. Blair's strategy proved superior and he was first to the checkered flag. Fisher settled for second, Wells finished third, and Castro was fourth.
Allen Doss got the best start and ran away with the victory in the Second Division Main Event. Philip Harmatiuk was second, Steve Bowen finished third, and Steve Dziadus was fourth.
J.C. Masters led the Third Division Main from start to finish for his first main event victory. Brad Moreau was second, Matt Eddy finished third, Billy J. Vaughn was fourth, and Tony DeAlmeida finished fifth.
Austin Novratil scored an impressive win in the Youth Main Event with Russell Green finishing second and Dylan Black getting third.
Joe Jones and Jimmy Olsen swept through their three heats undefeated and earned the right to have first gate selection in the Sidecar National Championship Final. They wisely selected the pole and used it to gain a big advantage entering turn one. Jones and Olsen pulled away from the field to capped their evening by cruising to the National Championship.
Stuart Glass and Deon Stokes, who returned after several years away, finished second, Dale Facchini and Matt Davis were third, and Buck Blair and Steven Bumpas finished fourth.
The next speedway event at Wheel2Wheel Raceway is scheduled for Saturday, November 3. The afternoon event will start at 3:00 p.m.
