Grass Track Racing: Top UK grass track competitords to race in Cornwall.

The Mid Cornwall “Premier” Motorcycle Club’s Westcountry Winner grass track meeting takes place on Sunday 22nd April at a great new venue of Bocaddon Farm on the B3359 near Looe in South East Cornwall.

The club are pleased to have the current British Masters Champion and Westcounty Winner title holder Andrew Appleton heading an entry which also includes the top British rider in last year’s FIM World Longtrack  championship Glen Phillips and 2005 Westcountry Winner champion Steve Braidford. 

Other riders in the solo class include young Charlie Saunders who claimed two class wins at the Cornwall Solo Grass Track Club’s Easter Sunday meeting, Gareth Hickmott, Vince Kinchen, Daniel Winterton, Martin Williams, Steve Leigh, John Jefferies and Australian Rodney McDonald.  Adrian Rowe(Truro) and Shaun Pascoe (Fraddon) provide local interest in the class.

The 1000cc  Grass Track Sidecar entry includes most of the top crews in the country, including the top three from last season’s British Masters with champions Rob Bradley & Shaun Simpson, 2nd place Rob Wilson & Ian Whale and 3rd place Duncan Tolhurst & Terry Saunters taking their place in the line up.  Myles Simmons & Kevin Woodley are seeking to win a third consecutive Westcountry Winner title having claimed the honours in 2005 & 2006. 

Other crews include Matt Fumerola & Andy Wilson, Gary Jackson & Carl Blyth, Colin Blackburn & Paul Whitlam Jnr,  Paul Whitlam & Alan Elliot, John Hiscock & Gareth Bemister, Gary Ball & Debbie Bird, Darly Sweetland & Mike Bishop and Mark Warren & Martyn Smith.  Locally based crews Matthew Tyrrell & Shaun Yates (Bugle), Andy Gribble & Moss Janson (Redruth), Phil Syms & Daniel Bray (Fraddon), Joe Sturtridge & Lee Toms (St Austell), Alf & Terry Pearn (Crediton), Jim Pearn & Paul Uglow (Thorvorton), Clive Stoneman & Matt Vickery (Tiverton), Jamie Bree & James Goudge (St Dennis), Lee Hicks & Phil Collyer (Fraddon), Andy Symons & Roland Broomfield (Roche), Wayne Westaway & Darren Wilce (St Austell) and Steve Palmer & Shaun Hoskin (Blackwater) complete a competitive line up.

For a second year the 1040cc sidecar speedway outfits are included with British Champions & World number 2 Gary Jackson & Carl Blyth and defending Westcountry Winner champions Ivor Matthews & Dave Hogan expected to lead the field.  Also competing are Paul Whitlam & Alan Elliot, Paul Bickley & James Benfield, Mike Cave & Ben Goddard, Dave French & Chris Carter and from Holland Roel Liemburg & David Williams.

Action gets under way at with practice at 10.30am with the main race meeting starting at 1.00pm.  A program of youth racing, featuring all the top young riders who regularly compete in the South West will take place between practice and the main meeting.

The venue will be signposted on the B3359 (Looe/Polperro road) from the A390 at East Taphouse, west of Liskeard.
