Astley & Tyldesley hosted the Northern Cup meeting at a wet and windy Gin Pit on Sunday afternoon. Despite the weather, the track held up superbly and an exciting day's racing ensued. There was a shock in the 1st senior semi-final, as both Edinburgh and Sheffield, winners of the trophy for the past four years, went out. Sheffield were handicapped by the late arrivals of Dariusz Pilas and Pawel Kozlowski, whilst Edinburgh lost Craig Newsome after a heat 8 fall and had no reserve replacement. Stoke were convincing winners, with Heckmondwike snatching the other qualifying spot. Stoke failed to bring their own racing shirts, so wore a spare set of Astley & Tyldesley's green shirts.
