Cycle Speedway: Report: 2009 Manchester League Grand Prix opening round.

Astley & Tyldesley staged the opening round of the Manchester League Grand Prix series at Gin Pit.

The welcome addition of Sheffield led to a good turn out of riders, with 44 races staged, the later races staged under floodlights. Sheffield won the Division 1 team match, with Remi Burchardt winning the Senior Individual Grand Prix round.

Manchester League Division 1 match result (top 5 scorers count per team)

Sheffield 37 Astley & Tyldesley 28 Bury 24 Stockport 22

Seniors: Remi Burchardt (A & T) 15, Dylan Radcliffe (Stockport) 13, Chris Parish (Bury) 13, Dariusz Pilas (Sheffield) 13, Ryan Hoyland (Sheffield) 13, Tom Doyle (Bury) 11, Mick Knowles (Sheffield) 11, Ben Higham (Stockport) 9, Andy Knowles (A & T) 8, Martin Ogden (A & T) 5.

Referee – Gary Nuttall (A & T).

A & T pipped last year’s winners Stockport in the opening Division 2 team match. Adam Watson won the opening U-10 Individual Grand Prix round, with Jake Read and Joel Partington sharing the honours at U-13 level. Dylan Radcliffe and Ben Dickenson were the victors at U-16 and U-19 levels respectively.

Round 2 of the Manchester League Grand Prix series took place at Bury. The senior match was abandoned with three races remaining, due to bad light on an overcast evening. Sheffield won the Division 1 team match, with Dariusz Pilas and Ryan Hoyland leading the Senior Individual Grand Prix round, after the 9 heats ridden.

Stockport just edged out A & T in the Division 2 team match. Adam Watson won his second U-10 Individual Grand Prix round, with Jake Read and Richard Hudson sharing the honours at U-13 level. Dylan Radcliffe and Ben Higham were joint winners at U-16 level, with Leon Wild taking the U-19 category.
