Young Rocco Casale was the only competitor to go through the score card unbeaten at the 4th round of the Formula Grasstrack Association Championships run by Whitchurch MCC at their Crewe venue on Saturday, taking 1st place in the Cub class with Callum Roberts a worthy 2nd.
The Junior class produced some of the closest racing so far this season with Tom Perry managing to take the overall win. The much improved Richard Guest in his 1st year of FGA racing took his best result to date with a fine 2nd place. Claire Frays, the only rider to beat Perry on the day, took overall 3rd. Improved performances from Gary Leadbitter and James Williams saw them both take heat wins.
John (Mick) Jones again demonstrated why he is one of the favourites for the senior title by winning 5 out of his 6 races to take 1st position. In 2nd place was the stylish Paul Timms, the only man to beat Jones on the day. Battling it out for 3rd and 4th places respectively were Sam Flowers and Formula veteran, Len Sanders with only one point splitting the 2 in the final reckonings.
Surprisingly, normal front runners Dave Meredith, Steve Carvill and Mark Evans all failed to score a heat win between them, Evans being involved in the nastiest spill of the afternoon and forced to withdraw from the meeting. The hard riding Mike Williams took joint 6th with Carvill.
