This will be the 5th season for Shorttrackuk. The word has got about and the sport is growing in rider numbers and in spectator numbers.

We are running an 8 round UK Championship also there is ACU British National title at stake to race for. The rider numbers have increased so much now we are also going to run a 6 Round Club Championship which will cater for novices and Junior riders.

The UK Championship has two title Sponsors this year, Silkolene Oils who have supported our Championship from the very beginning and Pozzani Water Filters who are new to motorsport and are keen to be partners of a growing sport. Just like Moto GP we have gone for a one make tyre deal with Maxxis, who import Dirt Track racing tyres and offer two compounds for the riders.
 
The Championship has already attracted riders from all round the world including 7 times Grand National Champion Chris Carr and the 2009 season doesn't look any different. Italian rider Marco Belli who is three times ShorttrackUK Champion will once again be defending his Number 1 plate. He won his title last year riding for the Factory CCM Team, who will once again be running Marco as part of a three man team, which includes two times Junior Shorttrack Champion 15 year old Tom Woolley moving up to the adult class and third member Richard May who finished 3rd in the Thunderbike Championship. Also making the trip from Europe  will be Marco's fellow Italians Jacopo Monti ( 2007 European Champion) and Luca Talamona racing in the Thunderbike Class and Swiss riders Jan-William Janson and Tom Van Nes who both ride XR750 machines in the big bike class.
 
There are many top Class  British riders now mastering Flat track racing including works Suzuki Rider Peter Boast -  last year's Thunderbike Champion, Andrew Moore -  former Elite league speedway rider and Under 21 Grass Track Champion, who will be riding a Kenny Roberts built Rotax single. Also a famous speedway name that has taken up Shorttrack is the Collins family, father Les who is a former World number 2 in speedway is giving series a go this year, along with his son Ade who finished third in last season's championship.
