Speedway fans are advised to clear the calendar in preparation for a feast of speedway action in Christchurch over two nights.
A twilight meeting on Friday 27th at the Canterbury Motorcycle Speedway Club’s Moore Park track kicks off at 6pm. Featured is the MNZ Short track Sidecar title. Always close and interesting at Moore Park, entries to date have already hit double figures. The championship will be run over 20 heats for the 16 finalists. Qualifying may be required as entries do not close until Friday.
Also on the cards is the first round of an interprovincial solo challenge. Four teams from Auckland, Palmerston North, Canterbury and Southland will race over 16 heats competing for a team shield put up by the CMSC. The four man teams include a reserve who can be introduced into selected heats, will race to a proven English teams format.
The idea was promoted by Lionel Green late last year but was left idle when Green resigned as the local solo and sidecar representative. Green has come on board at a late stage and put a lot of work in to see one of his dreams come to fruition.
Over at Ruapuna on the Saturday night, a second round of the teams challenge will be run supporting the Side Car Masters meeting. This meeting starts at 7pm and will all take place on the big track which will be specially prepared for the evening. All the bikes enjoy the big Ruapuna circuit when prepared to suit and the chairs especially like to stretch their legs.
Despite some difficult times for the bike classes at the CSA, some co operation has been forthcoming between the two clubs to ensure competitors can make the most of the trip.
Prize money and assistance with some travel is being paid at both meetings.
