BSI Speedway, rights holders of the team world championship FIM Speedway World Cup, today confirmed  Peterborough Showground will be the venue for Event Two, of the 2009 FIM Speedway World Cup.

The event, that will take place on Monday 13 July 2009 at 19.30H, will see Great Britain take on former world champions Australia and Poland plus a qualifier.

“The Peterborough Showground is no stranger to the FIM Speedway World Cup as it hosted the  Race Off and Final in 2002.” explains BSI Speedway’s managing director, Paul Bellamy.  “Fans will have the chance to see a number of riders whose appearances will be few and far between on these shores including world number two, Jason Crump from Australia and world number three Tomasz Gollob  who will be making a rare trip to the UK to captain the Polish team.  It is a mouth watering line-up and one that no British speedway fan will want to miss. “

Commenting on the meeting  Peterborough speedway  owner and promoter Rick Frost, said: “To host a round of the FIM Speedway World Cup is a real feather in the cap for Peterborough speedway.  It is a credit to the club and the showground that we can stage an event of such stature.  Everyone at the club is looking forward to welcoming fans from all over the UK and Europe to see what promises to be a very competitive round of the FIM Speedway World Cup and I am sure that British fans in particular will be out in force to back the British team in their search for world championship success.”

Alongside the confirmation of the venue of Event Two, the sport’s governing body, the FIM, confirmed the draw for the opening two rounds.  Vojens in Denmark hosts the opening event that will see current world champions Denmark take on Sweden, Russia and the winners of qualifying round two that takes place in Daugavpils, Latvia (02 May 2009).   Great Britain will line up as the home nation at Peterborough against Australia, Poland and the winner of first qualifying round in Terenzano, Italy (02 May 2009).

Tickets for Event Two of the FIM Speedway World Cup will be announced in due course.
