Ivan Mauger and his team of sponsors are back in Christchurch at Moore Park for his 2009 Speedway Academy.
Riders from as far away as Invercargill to Auckland are in attendance. The Christchurch Motorcycle Speedway Club host the riders and also a twilight meeting at 6pm on Friday 9th. This will see the academy riders joined by some of the more regular riders in a combined teams event.
Ivan will select two senior teams who will race over a 18 heat FIM world format. Support racing will see the some of the juniors fresh from the academy in race mode with racing from other senior solos and sidecars support. The new NZ no 2 Jade Mudgway from Palmerston North and young Auckland flyer, Sean Mason will join the field.
The line up is impressive with over 24 seniors and 16 juniors down to
attend Fridays 40 plus event meeting. Some of our more senior riders in
their 40’s and 50’s can still upstage some of the young guns. NZ riders
who ventured overseas last season, come head to head for the occasion.
Invercargill’s Alex Cunningham, Palmerston North’s Jade Mudgway, and
Christchurch’s Andy Aldridge now set the bench mark for some of the
others. In the junior section we see the return to Moore Park of the
North Island riders, Ryan Terry - Daley, Bradley Wilson - Dean and
Bradley Andrews, to name just a few who will come up against the local
NZ junior champion Anthony Knowles.
A number of these riders will be making their way back from the NZ under 21and NZ Solo Champs held at New Year.
