SHEFFIELD Speedway are set for their most high-profile start to a season in modern history next March.

The Owlerton club, who are currently rebuilding their team in a bid to challenge for the 2009 Premier League title, have two mouthwatering events lined up.

Tapes will go up on Sunday, March 15, with the Ozchem Classic in memory of the club’s close friends Darren and Sharon Boocock, who tragically died in a road accident earlier this year.

And a fortnight later, March 29, Owlerton will stage the first-ever Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund meeting to raise money for injured riders, both past and present.

A host of star names from the Speedway world have already indicated their intention to ride in one or both of the meetings.

Sheffield co-promoter Neil Machin said: "The SRBF is a lifeblood for a lot of former riders who were injured racing speedway and the more we can develop the organisation the better.

"We have always wanted to stage a memorial meeting for Darren and Sharon and that will launch our season on March 15.

"Greg Hancock is pulling a few strings and we're looking at riders like Jason Crump and Tomasz Gollob spearheading a Europe v Rest of the World match, which will be pretty mouthwatering."
