Scunthorpe Speedway held their End of Season Presentation Night on Saturday and Viktor Bergström walked away with the Rider of the Season Trophy.

The Swede scooped the trophy, which was voted for by members of the Supporters’ Club, whilst junior members of the club voted for the Scorpions’ reserve rider Byron Bekker.  Gary Irving was the Saints Rider of the Year and also won the Colin Harrison Memorial Trophy as the most improved rider.

The www.scunthorpespeedway.com website forum also presented awards for their riders of the year with Bergström (Scorpions) and Bekker (Saints) picking up the trophies whilst Carl Wilkinson also won a pair of awards.  His efforts away from home were rewarded with the supporters’ clubs ‘Away Rider of the Season’ trophy whilst he also won the ‘Most Exciting Rider’ title.

The evening proved a fitting celebration of the 2008 season and Promoter Rob Godfrey suggested that 2009 was set to be even better with a challenge for the Premier League title the aim.  Afterwards he confirmed “I didn’t enjoy finishing tenth.  I wanted to make the playoffs and we didn’t.  Next year I believe we can challenge for the title and we are doing all we can to build a team to do that”.
