After an incident during the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions meeting at Newcastle last night the club have taken the decision to release reserve Ben Powell.
Powell crashed in heat 12 after seeming to be hit by Newcastle’s Kenni Larsen. Despite the referee excluding Larsen, Powell seemed to launch his bike at the Danish rider as he re-entered the pits aboard his own bike.
The Scunthorpe promotion team of Rob Godfrey and Kenny Smith made their decision this morning and Godfrey had the following to say on the matter “Scunthorpe Speedway can not, and will not, condone Ben Powell’s actions and he is released with immediate effect. Ben hasn’t been any trouble since he joined us in June and we had even considered making him an asset.
He has apologised this morning but last night’s actions are indefensible and he will not be riding in our Hallowe’en Trophy at the end of the month. We would like to thank Ben for his efforts and wish him well for the future”.
