The curtain falls on Swindon's 2008 campaign this coming Sunday, 12 October, starting at 6.00 p.m., when a Four-Team Tournament takes centre stage at Blunsdon.
Swindon's junior side, the Sprockets, have a chance to excel against a trio of clubs that are hoping to secure permanent bases in the coming months. Leicester, Bristol and Oxford all boast a rich speedway history, but are currently without home venues.
Admission prices have been reduced ahead of Sunday's meeting and the an adult entry will cost just £10. The eighteen heat format is sure to serve up plenty of action and the four sides on show are laced with some of the sport's brightest young talent.
The Swindon Skips Sprockets quintet will be spearheaded by Robins' favourites Richard Sweetman and Cory Gathercole. Elsewhere, up and coming youngsters Charlie Saunders and Ben Reade will be joined by Danny Warwick, who has, of course, ridden for the Sprockets in the past.
Meanwhile, the Bristol team includes two riders with family connections to the club. Jay Herne, son of former Bulldog Phil Herne, will ride alongside Jordan Tyrer, son of another ex-Bristol stalwart, Paul Tyrer. Cornishman Mark Simmonds will feature, along with Russian Semen Vlasov and Weymouth's Andrew Bargh. The team will be managed by ex-Swindon teamster Glenn Cunningham.
The Leicester side is expected to be headed by two-times Russian Champion Sergei Darkin. The former Elite League regular will be joined by the exciting Aussie Kozza Smith, as well as talented British youngster Simon Lambert and nineteen-year-old Adam Lowe.
Oxford track a youthful looking outfit that includes Jamie Courtney, Brendan Johnson and Kyle Hughes.
Swindon team manager Alun Rossiter is delighted to welcome two local rivals back to Blunsdon:
"It's great to see two famous names in British speedway back on track and we are delighted to welcome them to Blunsdon for what promises to be a really exciting four-team tournament.
"With Richard Sweetman, Cory Gathercole and Charlie Saunders involved there is plenty for Swindon fans to be enthused about and the meeting really is a good way for us to finish the speedway season at Blunsdon.
"We've slashed admission prices by up to a third, so I urge all Swindon fans to come and get their speedway fix before the long winter nights begin to set in."
Jurica Pavlic and Troy Batchelor finished third and fourth respectively in Saturday's World U21 final at Pardubice, Czech Republic.
Russian wonderkid Emil Saifutdinov romped to victory for a second successive season after notching an impressive fourteen point haul. His only defeat of the night came at the hands of Swindon's Troy Batchelor who collected eleven points.
Jurica Pavlic and Chris Holder were locked together on twelve points; Holder then defeated Pavlic in an action packed run off.
