The Scunthorpe Saints have signed their second rider in a matter of a few days this weekend.
Earlier this week 14-year old James Sarjeant agreed to ride for the Saints in next year’s Conference League whilst this weekend 21-year old Cumbrian Craig Cook has joined the side and will ride at number two in next Friday’s Conference League Knockout Cup Semi-final second leg against Boston.
Commenting on the signing Team Manager Malcolm Vasey said “I’m excited about both signings. James has been impressing on the youth scene for a few years now and just lost out in a race-off for last year’s British Uner-15 Championship. He has been riding a lot at the Eddie Wright Raceway and he is undoubtedly one of the best riders who will step up into the Conference League next season”.
“As for Craig he only started riding a speedway bike about seven weeks ago. He has been doing well at moto cross and (Scunthorpe Scorpions’ Team Manager) Kenny Smith alerted me to the fact that he had switched to speedway and was looking good. He came and rode in the second-half races on Friday night and he looks to have real talent. We have nothing to lose by putting him into next Friday’s meeting and everything to gain. Jonathan Bethell is out with a broken wrist so we will use Craig instead of rider replacement”.
