Following last week’s postponement at the Norfolk Arena and the re-scheduling of the Hoddesdon leg, the Silver Ski Rockets are set to finally get it on with arch-rivals King’s Lynn in their play-off semi-final tie.
The first leg is now scheduled for Lynn this Wednesday (October 8th), with the second and deciding leg set for Rye on Saturday (October 11th at 7pm). Should Saturday’s match fall foul of the weather, it will re-dated for the following afternoon with a 2pm start, and form part of what would then become a double header alongside the Kart Raceway Cobras’ clash with Weymouth (see below).
The aggregate winners will tackle either newly crowned League champions Edinburgh or Cup Finalists Somerset in the next round. The Monarch won the first leg of their tie 57-36, with the return set for the south-west this Wednesday.
The winners of the Premier League Final will then face the loser of the Elite League relegation play-off for the option to compete in next season’s top flight. That other play-off will be between Wolverhampton and either Belle Vue or Peterborough.
Next in Town (2): Weymouth
The early call-off of yesterday’s (Saturday, October 4th) Rye House-Weymouth clash has been quickly followed by the re-scheduling of the Kart Raceway’s final Conference League match of the season for next Sunday (October 11th, at 2pm). The Cobras will face a tough test, as the Championship play-off bound Wildcats’ roster covers a fair amount of Premier League experience.
Jay Herne finished 5th in the recent Conference League Riders Championship at Rye, and has been doubling up with Birmingham, while Lee Smart spent an earlier chunk of this season with the Brummies, en route to reaching a second straight British U-21 Final. Andrew Bargh, meanwhile, is also a second year Isle of Wight Islander, while Matthew Wright appeared in 8 matches for Mildenhall this year and Karl Mason is a former Newport Wasp and British U-21 international. Throw in 16 year old prospects Brendan Johnson and Kyle Newman and you can see why Weymouth are in the final four for this year’s Conference League championship.
As noted above, should Saturday’s Rockets-King’s Lynn fixture suffer postponement, then Sunday’s event will become a double header encompassing both the Play-Off and Conference League matches.
