Scunthorpe Speedway have been awarded the 2008 British Under-18 Final and it will be run at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Monday 27th October (start time 7.30pm).

2007  champion, and former Scorpion, Tai Woffinden will be defending his crown and amongst the main challengers will be two other former Scorpions, Joe Haines and Josh Auty, who finished third and fourth respectively in last year’s final.

Whilst the full line-up is yet to be finalised riders who could line-up include Premier League regulars Jack Roberts (Birmingham), Nicki Glanz (Reading) and Jerran Hart (Newcastle) along with Conference League riders like Ben Taylor (Buxton), Daniel Greenwood and Richard Franklin (Rye House), Brendan Johnson and Kyle Newman (Weymouth) along with Scunthorpe Saints’ riders Ben Hopwood and Adam Wrathall.  It is also hoped that one or two riders from the British Under-15 championship will be allowed to compete.

The Monday night date wasn’t the club’s first choice but was necessary to ensure the highest quality field would be riding for the national title.  It means there isn’t likely to be a meeting on Friday 24th October unless the Scorpions can make it all the way to the Young Shield Final or further rain-offs cause fixture congestion as the season draws to a close.

Upon hearing that the club had been awarded the prestigious event Promoter Rob Godfrey commented “It is great that we have got some meaningful fixtures to end the season and it isn’t going to go out like a damp squib.  We’re sorry there are two fixtures in the final week but the opportunity to run this meeting was too good to turn down.  Hopefully fans will save their money from the Friday night and come and see the best young British talent in the sport.  It does mean we will have Tai (Woffinden), Josh (Auty) and Joe (Haines) ride in our last two meetings but considering their outstanding talent that can only be a good thing”.
