On a very cold evening a reasonable crowd turned out at Foxhall Stadium to support the benefit meeting for former rider Kim Jansson.

The 25 year old Swede suffered a spinal injury while riding in a Swedish League match in August which has left him paralysed from the waist down. Kim’s parents, Jani and Zelda Jansson had travelled over for the meeting and were introduced to both teams before the start.

An Evening Star Ipswich Witches side contested a fifteen heat meeting of two six men teams with a Kim Jansson Select. Ipswich were victorious 51-44 in a meeting where all the riders gave of their best and no rider scored less than four points.

The Witches supporters welcomed back their former favourite Scott Nicholls as a guest in an Ipswich race jacket for the evening and he top scored with 13+1. Carl Wilkinson, the Witches number eight rode in his first match for the team at Foxhall this season and notched 6+2. Robert Miskowiak managed 11+2 and Rory Schlein 10+2.

Oliver Allen led the way for the Kim Jansson Select with 10 whilst Danny King scored 9 and David Howe 8+1.

For the first time in some years the meeting featured a Champion of the Evening tournament which was won by Rory Schlein from Scott Nicholls. Upon receiving his £500 prize Schlein commented “all the riders have had fun tonight but this is simply all for Kim and we wish him well”.

Ipswich Witches:
Scott Nicholls 13+1, Carl Wilkinson 6+1, Rory Schlein 10+2, Robert Miskowiak 11+2, Steve Johnston 6, Chris Schraam 5+1.

Kim Jansson Select:
Oliver Allen 10, David Howe 8+1, Nick Simmons 4+1, Danny King 9, Shane Parker 6, Krzysztof Stojanowski 7+1.
