This Saturday, October 04, 2008, International Speedway, Inc is proud to present American Speedway motorcycle racing's richest and most prestigious event, the United States National Speedway Championship, for the 40th consecutive year!

In an age where events are billed as "World", "National", and "Championship" with little or no legitimate history or authority, the U.S. National Speedway Championship at Costa Mesa Speedway stands firm as the only viable and recognizable U.S. National Speedway title.

Sure other people have and continue to attempt to capitalize on the good will and name built on over 40 years of International Speedway, Inc.'s hard work and inspiration, but there is only one original Costa Mesa Speedway!

That kind of longevity is rare these days and is a hallmark of consistency, stability and predictability, but tonight's event is none of those!

The secret to the National's success comes from it's wide open, one night only, winner-takes-all format, which rewards risk taking and circumstance over consistency and it's this unpredictability which is Speedway's greatest attraction.

The National Speedway Championship is a one shot deal - there will be no second chance.  Any rider who hopes to claim the title must do it tonight or wait another year.  Speedway racing does not make allowances for bad luck, a broken bike, or a moment's lapse of concentration. The no-second chance theory is what makes Speedway racing so popular with the fans. Every racer in the field will be going all out, for them, there is no tomorrow.

In a time period of only 2 hours, a year's worth of preparation and hope is put on the line.  Only one man climbs to the highest step on the winner's podium.  He alone will claim the U.S. National Speedway Champion title and trophy for one short year and he will remember it forever!

One look at the rider line-up confirms that the Costa Mesa "bullring" oval hosts the toughest and best attended event in the country!  The skill, determination, daring and luck of each of the men competing is what puts the magic into a place like Costa Mesa Speedway.

None of this would be possible without the hard work and inspiration of our founders, Jack Milne and Harry and Marilynn Oxley.  Their determination and foresight have served as an example to all who have followed them!

To the promoters and officials of International Speedway, this event is the culmination of a year's worth of mud, sweat and tears

And finally, thanks to you our valued fans and Press Corps.  Your support and involvement makes Speedway the most colorful, accessible and exciting sport in the world!
