This Sunday, 5th October (start 3pm), the David Nix Memorial Trophy is run at Scunthorpe Speedway’s Eddie Wright Raceway in aid of local charity Magic Moments for Autistic Kids.
A range of Premier League and Conference League stars will be competing for the title with the Scorpions’ Richard Hall, Carl Wilkinson and Byron Bekker heading the line-up. Fellow Premier League riders Paul Cooper (Sheffield), James Birkinshaw (Birmingham), Ben Wilson (Sheffield) are also joined by Elite League rider James Brundle (Eastbourne).
Conference League riders include Scunthorpe Saint Gary Irving, Luke Priest (Weymouth), Mark Thompson (Boston) and David Nix’s cousin Darren Mallett who also rides for Boston. David Nix was tragically killed whilst riding for the King’s Lynn Conference League side at the Norfolk Arena in 2002. The annual meeting in his memory has raised several thousand pounds for childrens’ charities and the Nix family have found another worthy cause for 2008.
Magic Moments for Autistic Kids aim is to raise money to fund holidays, short breaks, day trips & recreational activities for Autistic Kids, their families and carers in Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire. Magic Moments is also there to offer support to all families and allow the siblings of autistic children to, for a short period, have a taste of normal childhood.
Admission for Sunday’s meeting is £10 for adults, £8 for concessions, £5 10-16 year olds and under 10s free with a paying adult.
