Peterborough Speedway: Witches Spell bound by the Panthers.

Another solid display by the Panthers saw them overcome the Witches challenge on a night which was lucky to see any Speedway at all.

Heavy rain late afternoon left the track seriously flooded and it was only extensive pre meeting work by Showground and track staff that saw the meeting go on at all.

Ipswich already missing the injured Kroner were further depleted with the loss of Robert Miskowiak and they drafted in new no 8 Carl Wilkinson to take his place whilst Panthers were back to full strength with Karol Zabik taking his place after a dramatic weekend turnaround.

It was clear that the early heats would be difficult with passing at a premium but both teams gave it a real go and deserve credit for some entertaining and thrilling speedway.

Ryan Sullivan got Panthers off to a great start with a comfortable win over Piotr Swiderski in heat 1 as riders took it somewhat easy on a very tricky surface early on.

Claus Vissing made it two wins in two races with a very determined start and first corner but Karol Zabik could make no impression on the Witches pair as again conditions made passing difficult.

Kenneth Bjerre and Henning Bager made light of conditions with an easy maximum over Jarek Hampel in heat 3 but Rory Schlein showed in the next that Panthers were not going to have it all their own way as he stormed away with the chasing Danny King and Claus Vissing unable to make any in roads.

Heat 5 saw Panthers open up a 10 point lead as Bager and Bjerre managed another 5-1 but Witches cause wasn’t helped by an early retirement for Swiderski.

Ipswich the produced a surprise as Chris Schramm and Rory Schlein made light of conditions to register their first maximum in the 6th which Panthers captain Ryan Sullivan was unable to do anything about.

Jarek Hampel was first away in heat 7 but was unable to prevent Karol Zabik from slipping by on his outside and he did well to hold off Danny King as Panthers increased their lead to 8 points.

Lukas Dryml who had appeared somewhat subdued in opening two rides made amends in heat 8 and was a worthy winner despite being pressured by Schlein for most of the race.

Bjerre making light of conditions got away early on to lead the 9th and was being pursued by Johnston, Schlein in as a tactical was third, but he was being chased by Bager and at the finish when Johnston slowed to allow Schlein second place things got a bit tight with Bager almost following him through.

Sullivan got the better of Hampel to complete his second win of the night in heat 10 but the Witches took the 11th courtesy of a Johnston victory with Zabik piling into the 4th bend airfence at speed when attempting to pass him, thankfully he was quickly up and clearly unhurt.

Bjerre continued his great night with his third race win in 12, whilst King won his first off the night in heat 13 which saw Schlein’s challenge fade after he got seriously out of shape on the pits turn.

Schramm showed a good nights work by winning heat 14 from Zabik and Bager before Bjerre completed his paid maximum with his 4th win in the finale.

Race times were consistently 4 to 5 seconds slower than normal but it was the Panthers who adapted to conditions the better and every single member of the Panthers team won at least one race, with Kenneth Bjerre deservedly getting the Sponsors (KRW Racing) man of the match award with a paid 15 point maximum.
