The Weymouth Doonan’s Wildcats must be wondering where it all went so wrong after a disastrous weekend of action in which they failed to gain a single point from three meetings on the road. The Dorset side set off on their northern tour with high hopes of scaling the summit of the Conference League table by the end of the weekend. The first meeting was scheduled for Friday but the Great British weather intervened with rain putting paid to the meeting at Boston which was then hastily rearranged for Monday. So, it was off to Redcar on Saturday and, although the Cubs have strengthened in recent weeks, the Wildcats were still confident of their chances. However, the meeting was not the encounter expected and the Cubs stormed to a 53-37 victory thereby booking themselves a place in the play-offs along with Weymouth, Plymouth and Boston. Sunday dawned and the Wildcats headed to Buxton where they faced the Hitmen and expected to take three points from the Derbyshire side. However, after leading the meeting
until heat 14, the Hitmen roared back to eventually win the meeting 46-44. Monday arrived and it was on to the Norfolk Arena where Boston were always going to be a tough challenge but no one could have predicted the drubbing that would be dealt out by the in form Barracudas. The Wildcats went down by a dismal 64-28 ending a torrid weekend for the Weymouth side.
Jem Dicken Wildcats Team Manager said “There’s not really anything to say about the weekends performances I just can’t think of any positives that can be taken out of any of the meetings. This Saturday we have a home challenge meeting against Oxford and a chance for the lads to redeem themselves.”
It’s a change of race night the following week due to the Conference League Riders Championship at Rye House on Saturday 27th September. Friday the 26th of September sees Wildcats Tim Webster make his return to racing after suffering a broken ankle back at the start of August. Tim lines up for the reborn Exeter Falcons who will be making a visit to the Wessex Stadium. Tim will be out to impress and to prove his fitness to the Weymouth management hoping to earn his place back in the Wildcats team.
The Weymouth Wildcats will face the Plymouth Devils in the Conference League play off semi finals on Friday 10th October at the St Boniface Arena with the home and deciding leg at Weymouth on Saturday 11th October.
