Round 4 of the British Sidecar Championship takes place at Smallmead Stadium on Monday 15 September, starting at 7.30 p.m.
As the overall leaders, Dave Bottrell and Ben Pitt, will not be able to be a part of the event, they leave the series on 52 points, six ahead of Matt Tyrrell and Shaun Yates, with Rich Moore and Rob Winspear further back on 41.
However, with 52 points on the board, Bottrell and Pitt could still take a rostrum position.
There is a fair chance that Tyrrell, whose BSSC average points is 10.22, will surpass Bottrell's total along with Moore (9.11), but the Championship is still wide open anything could happen and anyone can win.
Whilst these two teams battle it out, the scrap for a possible third place involves no less than four crews separated by a mere 3 points.
Mick Cave and Ben Goddard head this quartet on 30 points from Mark Cossar and Andi Wilson (29), Gary Jackson and Carl Blyth (28) and Craig Cheatham and Dave Hogan (27), but all four crews have a bit of catching up to do to the leaders.
SIDECAR FACTFILE
MATT TYRRELL and SHAUN YATES (St Austell, Cornwall): 46 points.
CURRENTLY heading the title chase, following Dave Bottrell and Ben Pitt's departure.
Former World No. 5 in 2007, but this year slipped back to tenth.
Have had their names on the BSSC back in 2005, as joint winners.
Immaculate preparation and the only team to bring two outfits to each meeting.
RICH MOORE and ROB WINSPEAR (Addlestone, Surrey): 41 points.
THE entertainers of the series, but this year has seen Team Skeleton show a serious face and hence the high spot in this year event.
No. 9 in the World from the reserve berth at Kings Lynn in August.
A combination of a UK driver and New Zealand passenger.
MICK CAVE and BEN GODDARD (Burgess Hill, Sussex): 30 points.
CAVE'S forte is quick starting and this series has shown consistency in that department.
One not to dismiss for a win on Monday, as Cave and Goddard demonstrated last year with a maximum score in the final round.
MARK COSSAR and ANDI WILSON (Rugby, Warwickshire): 29 points.
ONE of the youngest teams in sidecar speedway and a vastly improving crew.
Yet to get on to the podium this year, but that success is not far away.
One to watch at Smallmead, without doubt.
No. 8 in the 2008 World standings.
GARY JACKSON and CARL BLYTH (Chester, Cheshire): 28 points.
CURRENT British Champions and former World No. 2.
Gaining momentum as the series unwinds, but a poor score at the opening round could have dented their title aspirations.
Are sixth this year to date and World No. 4 from Kings Lynn.
CRAIG CHEATHAM and DAVE HOGAN (Worcestershire): 27 points.
FORMER Super Cup Champions, who are having a good series to date and challenging for a good finish.
Cheatham is enigmatic in his racing form, but a first year with Hogan on board has inspired Craig to some good scores.
IVOR MATTHEWS and RICK McAULEY (France): 27 points.
NOW based in France, Ivor Matthews has gone about his racing in a very quiet, almost unnoticed, manner.
First time together this season, the pairing of Matthews and McAuley have been building their scores as the season progresses.
Matthews is a former BSSC Champion in 2004 and joint winner in 2005.
Add to the list of riders Paul Bickley and Gareth Little, Pete Lloyd and Nick Wilson, Will Offen and Andy Wood, Tris Winterburn and Kev Colbourne, Paul Downes and Terry Madley, Mark Heatley and Martin Davis, plus Dutchman Roel Liemburg and his partner Fraser Sutherland.
HOT NEWS: World No. 5, the father and son team of Rod and Gareth Winterburn, have agreed to take the place of Dave Bottrell in the line-up. Based in Skipton, Yorkshire, the Northern Invaders were a sensation at the Gold Trophy on their Steer Yamaha.
They certainly will add some spice to the evening's entertainment and will be giving the current table-toppers something to think about.
