Shawn McConnell will try for his second win in a row, Ricky Wells will be looking for main event victory No. 6 and Charlie Venegas will be out to tie his single-season win mark when Industry Speedway drops the curtain on its regular season at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
It’s also Harley Night at the facility in The Grand arena at the Industry Hills Expo Center, with a large contingent of Harley-Davidson motorcycle riders expected for a “Harley and Hog Parade” and various races and games.
And while all that is going on, promoter Jeffrey Immediato and his staff will be continuing their preparations for the year-ending AMA Speedway California State Championships on Sept. 17.
In conjunction with the 25th running of the State Championships, the speedway is offering businesses and fans a chance to be involved in the competition and promote their companies and products or themselves through the “Buy a Heat Race” program.
The cost to sponsor a heat is $100. All the sponsorship money will go directly into the purse for the scratch main event while the sponsors will be recognized in several ways. The event program will identify each heat race with the name of its sponsor, as will announcer Bruce Flanders, and the sponsor’s company logo or information will be displayed on the arena’s four Jumbotron television screens as the riders line up for that particular heat.
Everyone interested in participating in the “Buy a Heat Race” program is encouraged to contact Immediato at 949-514-4141 as quickly as possible to guarantee being included in the printed program.
This week’s program will bring the 19-race regular season to a close. It has been a season of streaks, with Venegas winning eight of the first nine main events and Wells capturing five of six in recent weeks. However, the track championship will go to McConnell, the 49-year-old stuntman who built a points lead with consistently good results and assured himself the title Sept. 3 with his first main event win at Industry Speedway since Aug. 10, 2005.
Venegas, 41, returned to the winner’s circle Aug. 27 and can match the 10-win record he established last year with another win on “Harley Night.”
A large contingent of Harley-Davidson riders and aficionados are expected for festivities that will include the “Harley and Hog Parade,” a Harley race, and other contests including a “Longest Wheelie” competition.
Entrance gates at The Grand open at 5:30 p.m. and racing gets under way at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, students and military, and $5 for children 6-13.
