Scunthorpe Speedway are delighted to announce that the travellers who have been camped on adjacent land for the last two months have finally been evicted by the council.
The club would like to thank everyone who has taken time out to help the club win this battle but are warning against complacency as the council still have it as a potential site for permanent camp. Relieved Promoter Rob Godfrey would still like as many people as possible to register their objection to the site being used.
“Even if their site was supervised 24/7 I fear nothing but trouble if it is made permanent. I would urge anyone who hasn’t already objected to do so. There is only a few more days left and it can be done on the North Lincs website. It is great that so many people want Scunthorpe Speedway to survive. I just hope the council listens because every time the site has been occupied we have had break-ins that have cost the club thousands of pounds and even had staff attacked verbally and physically. The worst incident was when our 70-year old odd job guy had to seek sanctuary in the referee’s box when he was pelted with rocks. These have been some of the worst days in the club’s history and we can’t afford for them to be a permanent problem.”
Objections can be raised until 19th September at the following website address http://nlincs-consult.limehouse.co.uk/portal/pp/gt/gandt or by post/e-mail to:

When making on-line objections it is important not to suggest that all gypsies and travellers live outside the law because there are obviously exceptions, the comments will not appear on the website and they may not even be accepted by the council at all.
However, if anyone is in doubt about the type of people that have been the club’s neighbours pictures of the site can be seen at: http://www.scunthorpespeedway.com/gallery.php?category=56
