A tremendous display from Danny Halsey gave the Kart Raceway Cobras respectability in their tough match on Teesside.
The 19 year old dropped just one point in five starts, delivering a 6 point Tactical ride amongst his four straight wins and inflicting Adam McKinna’s only defeat in Heat 12 as revenge for an opening ride reverse. Lee Strudwick and Richard Franklin also grabbed race wins, but points-wise that was about the Cobras’ lot.
It was the Cubs who proved dominant on a track made heavy by pre-meeting showers, pushing to a 24-12 advantage after six races before Halsey’s Tactical success in Heat 7 sparked a 7-2 to give Rye brief hope. That hope was ended by three home 5-1s and a 4-2 over the remaining races as the home side eased away to a final margin of 19 points. The Cobras’ only heat advantage after Heat 7 came courtesy of a 4-2 in Heat 15, with Halsey rounding off his 17 point haul with a final victory and Lee Strudwick passing Leigh Boujos for third spot.
By the way, that was indeed the long-absent Robert McNeil who rode for the Cobras at No.6. He previously travelled all the way down from Scotland to ride for the then-Elmside Raiders in 2002.
Redcar completed a positive double header by edging Boston 46-44 in their second match of the night.
