The Wightlink Islanders return to Premier League action at the Wave 105 Smallbrook Stadium this coming Tuesday (7.30p.m. start) and skipper Jason Bunyan and his men will be looking to defeat the Stoke Potters and pot two more valuable league points, preserving their unbeaten home league record in the process.
Stoke will arrive looking to add to their away victory they achieved at Birmingham earlier this month although they will still be without their No.1 Lee Complin who's still sidelined thanks to injuries received in a road accident earlier this year.
Replacing him will be Reading's 37 years old Australian Mark Lemon but don't be deceived by his advancing years for "Lemo" is still one of the top performers in the Premier League recording double figure scores seemingly at will.
Now whilst speedway is in many ways very much a 'young man's sport' nowadays, Mark is one who very much goes against that grain and even more so is Yorkshireman Mark "Buzz" Burrows who at 44 years young has very much become a 'living legend' within the sport in which he made his debut for Scunthorpe way back in 1984!
To describe Buzz as exciting to watch really does something of a disservice to the man for if you want heart-stopping moments, then watching him in action for four laps will give you plenty!
At the other end of the age scale, Stoke's skipper is 20 years old Ben Barker who is one of Britain's best young prospects at the moment, a fact recognised by Elite League Coventry for whom he's made several appearances at reserve of late.
With Cory Gathercole still out of action (see below), the Wightlink Islanders will field an unchanged side from the one that defeated King's Lynn 49-41 in their last home match.
Injured young Aussie Cory Gathercole returns to hospital on Wednesday of next week and will be hoping that doctors will finally give him the all-clear to get back into action. He's been out of action since breaking bones in his left hand in a crash during the course of the Wightlink Islanders 6-32 home win over Scunthorpe way back on July 8.
He has undergone two operations to repair the damage and now hopes that, at last, he'll be given the green light to start riding again.
Following the postponement of the original fixture because of a waterlogged track, the Wightlink Islanders will now travel to Stoke in the Premier League on Saturday September 27
A further reminder too that a change of date now sees the Wightlink Islanders travel to Newcastle for their Premier League match on Monday 22nd September instead of Sunday 7th September as was originally scheduled. Please mark your records accordingly.
In addition to next Tuesday's home match against Stoke at the Wave 105 Smallbrook Stadium they hit the road for an away league match at King's Lynn 24 hours later. A full preview of that meeting will follow in due course.
