Berwick' surprise win at Workington last Monday has given them an outside chance of a place in the top four of this season's Premier League and the play-offs that would follow, but to maintain their chances they require a win at Glasgow and there is no way that there will be a charitable hand on offer from the Tigers. Skipper Trent Leverington admits that Bandits result raised a few eyebrows but this is one meeting that the home side will want to win:
"We will definitely want to put an end to their hopes of a top four place and we have had some terrific battles with the Bandits in recent seasons, but our form last week at home to Stoke was excellent and I think that if we can reproduce that kind of form then we should be able to take care of things. We all raced with plenty of confidence last week and I think that should be enough for us to prove to ourselves that another win is in the offing.
Perhaps Berwick have surprised a few teams this season and have improved as the season has gone on and that result at Workington hopefully will do enough to keep us on our toes and realise that we do have to perform to prevent them winning this one as well. I don't really think any of us really want to imagine Peter Waite's face at the end of the meeting if they were to win so that will make us doubly determined!"
There are some injury concerns for both clubs ahead of this meeting with Mitchell Davey suffering an injury on a Thursday night guest booking at Redcar and Berwick are awaiting a fitness report from Scott Smith. Finnish rider Tero Aarnio could return to their line-up to but the Bandits have named Paul Cooper of Sheffield as a guest in the meantime. Davey has sustained a hip injury but is hopeful of being fit for the weekend fixtures.
The Tigers lost out on their first ever visit to Scunthorpe on Monday, losing 54-39. That was despite a faultless maximum from Shane Parker, who won each of his four programmed rides and then folowed home team mate Robert Ksiezak for a paid maximum.
There are just two away league fixtures remaining with a trip to Workington on Saturday and then Edinburgh on Friday 5th September. The home fixture with Edinburgh is still awaiting a new date.
The annual collection for the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund will take place during the meeting on Sunday.
Former Tiger David McAllan's Farewell meeting is due up next Sunday (7th September) and it promises to be a feast of entertainment. The line-up may be due some changes with injury ruling out former Tiger Robert Nagy while Elite rider Simon Stead is also unlikley to attend after breaking a collar bone. A full release will be issued next week containing the full line-up.
Glasgow Speedway are delighted to announce a hotel partnership with the Jurys City Inn in Glasgow, more details will appear in future bulletins. The club would like to thank Paul Bray for his support in this partnership.
