The Poole Castle Cover Pirates shrugged off any thoughts of superstition to stretch their unbeaten league run to 13 consecutive matches with a convincing 58 – 35 win over Swindon. This win gives the Pirates a guaranteed home draw in the semi – final stages of the Elite League play – offs
Swindon came to town looking for their sixth win on the road but were never in with a shout as the Pirates took charge of the match from the opening race when Chris Holder delighted the biggest Poole crowd of the season by beating Swindon number one star, Leigh Adams.
“ I thought we showed a great deal of commitment” said Pirates Promoter Matt Ford “ It was a great performance against one of the best sides in the league. However, although it’s nice to be assured of a place in the play – off’s, we won’t become complacent and will still continue to take each match as it comes.”
Bjarne Pedersen produced another captain’s performance for the Pirates with a 14 point haul to head the team score chart, and with Chris Holder adding another 12 to give some valuable support, Poole were always ahead of the game.
Pirates now take a short break from league action when they face Coventry in the replay of the BSPA Knockout Cup semi final, with the first leg at Poole next Wednesday ( 3 Sept ) The original running of this semi - final tie finished a 90 – 90 draw after 30 exciting races, leaving both clubs having to face each other over another two legs to decide who goes through to the final
