After getting back to winning ways with a 54-39 victory over Glasgow on Monday the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions will surely face one of their stiffest challenges at the Eddie Wright Raceway this Friday.
A look at the Premier League table might suggest the lowly Stoke Potters shouldn’t be a problem but looks can be very deceptive in speedway.
After a season full of rained-off fixtures the Potters do have meetings in hand on the teams above them but it is their Premier Trophy showing at the Eddie Wright Raceway back in April that highlights their potential to claim the league points on Friday. When you factor in that former-Scorpion Andrew Moore now rides for the Potters, they can use a track specialist guest in place of the injured Lee Complin, Mark Burrows is back at reserve and their top rider, Ben Barker, had an uncharacteristically bad meeting in April it becomes obvious that the Scorpions are going to have to be on top form if they are to see off Stoke’s challenge on Friday and Scorpions Promoter Rob Godfrey couldn’t agree more.
“Emiliano (Sanchez) is going through a tough spell at the moment but he’ll want to prove a point against the Potters so hopefully he’ll have a better meeting whilst Andrew Moore said he couldn’t ride our track. I just hope he proves he was right on Friday. ‘Buzz’ Burrows was exceptional on his last visit but we have strengthened up too. Both Byron (Bekker) and Ben (Powell) are going well so we haven’t got a weak tail and our top four are going well too. It’s going to be another absolute cracker like the Sheffield meeting but I’m sure we can just nick the win.”
