One of the Hammers trio of injured riders has vowed to return to action in time for the Elite League Play Offs giving everyone at the Club a big boost ahead the teams’ return to League action a week on Friday (5th Sept).
Speaking from his hospital bed first year Hammer Jonas Davidsson, who suffered a punctured lung, a shoulder injury and internal injuries a week ago in Sweden, has told Team Boss Jon Cook that he intends to be back racing in time to join his remaining team mates for the Play Offs.
Cook commented on this news saying: "It was tremendous to hear such positive news from JD. He really has taken the Club to his heart and, subject to some further tests in mid week, he fully expects to be back racing in time to reach full fitness ahead of the Play Offs. It’s a considerable boost following our present team problems and as such we may now hold fire on making any changes as with Finn Kauko Nieminen currently averaging two points above the scores of Joonas Kylmakorpi we are loath to have to make adjustments to the bottom of the team to come in line with the 42 point limit that would result in the Finn being ineligible for the rest of the year.
It’s a very difficult call but I would expect us to line up very similarly on the 5th September as we did for our last home match."
The latest news on another of the Hammers injured riders is that Adam Shields remains in Hospital in Peterborough where doctors have confirmed that he suffered a broken back in his crash last Thursday but that he will make a full recovery and be able to return to racing in 2009, although he faces a considerable period of recovery.
