Reading Speedway: Racers looking for victory at Mildenhall.

Reading Racers, Berkshire’s Premier League speedway team, travel to bottom-of-the-table Mildenhall for their next domestic fixture on Sunday 31 August, with the action set to begin at 4.30 p.m.

The Fen Tigers have suffered enormous problems with injuries this term, culminating in an official record that reveals just one victory from thirty-two official meetings, thus far.

Their solitary success occurred on 26 April, when they defeated local rivals King’s Lynn 46-44 in an exciting Premier Trophy encounter at their West Row-home.

In the league, Mildenhall have completed twenty-four matches, twelve at home and twelve on the road, and have the unenviable record of losing the lot.

As a further measure of the difficulties the Fen Tigers have encountered, there have been numerous changes to their declared 1-7, which has seen them use no less than fifteen different riders this term, not including various guests.

Turning to the Racers and the good news is that Danny Warwick is set to return to the line-up, having missed the Bank Holiday draw against King’s Lynn after suffering a reaction to the shoulder that he’s already injured twice during the season.

Meanwhile, at the time of going to press, the Reading bosses were still trying to secure the services of a guest to fill their blank space at No. 6.

Said promoter Malcolm Holloway: “Obviously, we will be targeting our third away win in the league this year, although you can never take anything for granted in speedway.

“The lads will need to keep focused and work hard, but if they perform as we know they can, then hopefully we will get the result that we want.

“Mildenhall might be a small track, but it rides likes a big fast one, so you really have to race there to score points. The boys will need to stay on the gas throughout.”
