David really was shell-shocked when he received the news that Robert Nagy, Glasgow’s prodigal son, would be unable to race in his meeting because of a hand injury sustained in an international event in Croatia. But Wee Mac moved quickly to get Glasgow’s other prodigal son on board.
JAMES GRIEVES had absolutely no hesitation in agreeing to race and David was thrilled that the racer he bought his first ever bike from would be there to help him celebrate a special career. Oh, and Shane Parker will be there too.
David said: “I remember Grievesy leaving Wolverhampton, where he had just won the double, and signing for Berwick. I was just starting out and used to go to Shielfield every Saturday. Lo and behold he had an Antig rolling chassis up for grabs and I soon became the proud owner.
“James is a very single-minded and determined racer who has quite proudly gone on to become Scotland’s number one over the past few years. I’m extremely proud that he’ll be racing in MY meeting.”
And despite the bad news concerning Robert Nagy, David received another boost when Glasgow legend SHANE PARKER came through his comeback meetings with flying colours and declared himself FIT for Sunday September 7.
David said: “Shane is Mr Glasgow – he really is. The pits are like a morgue when the great man isn’t there. He really does have such a profoundly positive effect on everyone round about him. I just couldn’t have envisaged running my meeting at Glasgow without Shane. He came back with super displays at Kings Lynn and Redcar then bagged back-to-back maximums at Ashfield and Scunthorpe. Words defy me!”
