WOLVERHAMPTON moved off the bottom of the Elite League table with a sensational 48-45 win over Belle Vue at Monmore on Monday.
Going into the last race the Black Country side were 44-43 down – and they faced the prospect of racing against double world champion Jason Crump.
Niels Kristian Iversen and Freddie Lindgren were the last heat heroes as they pulled off an amazing 5-1 to send the home fans crazy.
Crump had earlier pulled off a superb six-point return as a tactical ride when Aces boss Chris Morton battled to keep his team in contention.
Once again the standard of entertainment was out of the top drawer in front of a bumper Bank Holiday crowd.
When Patrick Hougaard and Billy Forsberg teamed up for a Belle Vue maximum in the penultimate race it looked as though Wolves had blown it and slipped to an eighth home defeat of the season.
But Iversen and Lindgren had the last word – and with two visits to Belle Vue remaining this season (the first of which is on Wednesday), two wins would put Wolves above the Manchester men.
WOLEVRHAMPTON: Freddie Lindgren 12+2, Niels Kristian Iversen 12+1, Ales Dryml 8+2, David Howe 5+1, Nicolai Klindt 5, Jesper B Monberg 3+1, Kenneth Hansen 3+1.
BELLE VUE: Billy Forsberg 12+2, Jason Crump 12, Joe Screen 7+1, Patrick Hougaard 7+1, Charlie Gjedde 7, Craig Watson 0, Lukasz Jankowski R/R.
