Swindon’s Abbey Stadium hosts round three of the British Sidecar championship on Thursday 28th August when an array of World class sidecar competitors will descend on the Blunsdon circuit.
The monster 1000cc, 150 BHP sidecar speedway machines are renowned for spectacular racing and their all action style makes for superb entertainment.
A change to the traditional format allows Australian teams to compete in the 2008 series. The visiting riders have certainly made a big impact in the competition thus far and asserted their authority in the opening round of the series at Plymouth.
From a British perspective, the championship has started well for Rich Moore/Rob Winspear partnership who finished on the podium in the opening BSSC round.
Also showing good form is the Cornish team of Matt Tyrrell / Shaun Yates. The affectionately nick named ‘Kernow Krew’ are previous winners of the BSSC trophy having lifted the coveted championship back in 2005.
The ‘Young Guns’ in the series are Mark Cossar / Andi Wilson. The exciting outfit that have progressed significantly in the last season,. Cossar races with great tenacity, is deceptively quick and excels on the larger circuits.
Current BSSC Champions, Gary Jackson / Carl Blyth, didn’t enjoy a good start to their title defence, mechanical gremlins limited their opening round score to just three points.
Swindon Robins team manager Alun Rossiter is looking forward to the event. He said: "The sidecars always put on a superb show at Blunsdon, I’m really excited about this event. I urge anyone who has never seen sidecar speedway racing to come along and experience for themselves how breathtaking the racing really can be. With the Australian contingent involved it adds an international flavour to the meeting and I’ll be interested to see how the British riders compare to their counterparts from down under!"
