Canadian Speedway: Dave Havill's Dream Night!

A beautiful sunny and warm night greeted a great field of riders to the CKPC Paris Speedway event on Saturday August 23 2008.

The stage was set for a great night of racing and that is exactly what the lucky fans received.

The riders included Terry Rideout, Corinne Franic, Tim Murray, Jeff Orosz, Chris Hesmer, Aaron Hesmer, Aaron Deveau, Dave Hope, Nicole DeVeau, Jeremy Zelaska, Mark Engel, Bob Mosquera, Doug Beaumont, Joe Heye, Mike Hammond, Graham Wale, Matthew Sehl, Braden Vallee, Mike Fisher, Tom Brown and Tommy Hensby.

The night began on a sad note with the information being given that Dave Havill, the great promoter of Paris Speedway has undergone an urgent serious operation and the riders and all involved, sent their prayers and good wishes in a minute silence to Dave for a very speedway recovery and the night was dedicated to Dave!

The night started with some the Division 1 riders coming out to the track. Terry Rideout arrived with his brand new Jawa and looked to push hard. Sadly though, his bike had a mysterious miss and was therefore holding him back from doing the business. He continued throughout the night to switch between his old and new bike and found that a loose ground was the problem after all at the end of the meeting! The racing from all the Division on riders throughout the heats was superb! Joe Heye a crowd favorite, was pushing very hard and celebrated a few heat wins along-side Aaron Hesmer.

Chris Hesmer, Aaron DeVeau, Doug Beaumont, Terry Rideout and Jeff Orosz all worked hard to gain the important points on the night.

The Division 2 racing was completely dominated by Tim Murray. GT Tuning Canada sponsored Murray enjoyed some smooth riding which lead him to some successfully heat wins. Graham Wale sadly was suffering from mechanical problems from heat one and this seemed to throw the usually consistent Wale back into the pack. Bob Mosquera from Michigan arrived at the track without his leathers, but a quick rally-around from the other riders, gained Bob some riding gear and he did a great job together with fellow American rider Mark Engel.

Division 3 was graced with a full line-up of riders, the night became the 17- year old Jeremy Zelaska show! Jeremy in his first official night of racing, performed to a high level and completely dominated the heats. He looked very smooth and in full control fending off Dave Hope for a few laps. Nicole Deveau also enjoyed a very welcomed return to the speedway track after an absence of over 6 years. She was very smooth also and enjoyed a safe and comfortable night once again! Tom Brown also enjoyed a safe and enjoyable event.

The Division 3 final was poised to be a crowning night for the Rookie Jeremy Zelaska. He took the inside gate and flew into first place by corner 1. Dave Hope did all he could to keep his front wheel down as he looped from the gate, and he enjoyed pushing Zelaska from second place. Tom Brown kept a good way back with Nicole DeVeau to allow Jeremy Zelaska to bring home the checkered flag leaving him unbeaten in 4 heats and the final! Great Job!

Division 2 final was poised with Corinne Franic, Tim Murray, Mark Engel and Bob Mosquera at the line. Tim Murray as Zelaska, flew into the lead and never looked back. Corinne Franic pushed him hard, but there was nothing the others could do to stop GT Tuning Canada's Tim Murray from being the first to cross the line!

The Division 1 Final was a cracker!!! Jeff Orosz, Aaron Hesmer, Chris Hesmer and Joe Heye were all ready for the action! The tapes rose and Jeff Orosz, Aaron Hesmer and Joe Heye were all side by side into turn one, Chris hesmer read the plan and swooped around the outside to grab second place behind Joe Heye. Aaron Hesmer went passed Jeff Orosz and Chris Hesmer coming into turn 3 and swooped under Joe Heye going side by side as they both touched and went down. Up and OK they both went back to the tapes where the referee John Franic, put Aaron Hesmer back 15 yards. Upon the restart Chris Hesmer allowed brother Aaron the pass him, avoiding any collisions at the start line. Joe heye went out in the lead and Jeff Orosz spent 4 laps holding back an aggressive looking Aaron Hesmer who pushed him every inch of the track. The race was superb and we congratulate all 4 riders for a great job! This race alone was worth the admission!

The Junior riders on their 85cc bikes took to the track. Matthew Sehl, Mike Fisher and Braden Vallee all rode hard all night. The infamous battle between Vallee and Sehl continued but Sehl came out the comfortable winner of the night.

Tommy Hensby, the new 12-year old junior speedway rider, was on hand to give some demonstration laps on the reduced scale 185cc gas powered bike belonging to Stan Bradbury. This was enjoyed by the crowd and other riders, as this was the first time a 185cc bike has been seen in action for many years at Paris Speedway.
