Round 4 of the International Mefo Sport Flattrack Cup was a huge success! The very well prepared track in Eenrum staged one of the best flat track races ever seen this side of the Atlantic.
The beautiful 640 meter track in the North of the Netherlands is made up of very sticky clay with bucket loads of grip. This meant that conditions were new to both the regular flat track cup riders, whom had never experienced this much grip, as well as the Dutch short track specialists, mounted on Maxxis dirttrack tires for the first time.
A huge crowd, over a thousand strong, was drawn trackside by the beautiful summer weather and out of curiosity for this never before seen type of motorcycle racing. They absolutely loved watching the big Harley twins, accompanied by the first appearance of the beautifully self-built Suzuki v-twin by Frysian Edy Put, thundering down their track.
They were treated to extremely close, hard fought battles, as Dutch aces like Raymon Woortman, Henderik Mulder, Bert Dijkstra and Wiemer Borger challenged the top flattrack cup riders Steve Hall, Jens Hinrichs, Marco Belli and Tim Greig for the 2000 euro prize purse. All of them took top spots in the heat races, promising an extremely close twelve lap grand final, with all of them having a serious chance of taking top rostrum.
But even these high stakes didn’t disrupt the typical flat track brotherhood, as Steve Hall was quick to offer his spare MRS KTM to Raymon Woortman, who experienced technical problems in the last heat race.
The high expectations were majestically fulfilled, as all present witnessed one of the closest races ever, with 5 top contenders fighting it out to the line, none of them willing to concede and all of them determined to get there first!
The crowd went wild, the well informed, very enthusiastic commentator Jacob Alkema went nuts as the Dutch experts were absolutely flying, but on the line it was current cup leader Marco Belli, who inched his CCM in front of Raymon Woortman on the last meters of the race, winning the day.
A huge compliment goes to the people of MC Eenrum, who prepared the track to perfection with careful manual spraying to keep the dust down, without over watering which could have caused dangerous situations, topped off with a flawless organization and great promotion. They turned the first ever flat track race in the Netherlands into a massive success!
See you all for the final round of the International Mefo Sport Flattrack Cup 2008 on the beautiful triangular 700m track in Lübbenau on 20 September!!
