WOLVERHAMPTON got back in the winning mood with a hard fought 47-43 win over bitter rivals Coventry at Monmore Green on Monday.
Reserve Nicolai Klindt, in his first season of full-time British racing, gave his best performance so far in Parrys International Wolves colours to head the scorecharts - and skipper Freddie Lindgren managed a vital Heat 15 win.
Both teams lost the services of a key rider after a nasty collision on the fourth turn of Heat 4. Wolverhampton's recent recruit Jesper B Monberg locked up when leading on lap two and the closely following Simon Stead had nowhere to go. As Stead hit the deck, Klindt couldn’t avoid him.
Although all three were able to walk away, and Stead bravely took victory in the re-run, after examination in the pits, Monberg was withdrawn from the meeting following a blow to the head, and Stead with a suspected broken thumb.
Wolves had a trump card at reserve in Klindt who rose to the occasion with three race wins in his 15-point haul, while the Bees were short on firepower from their bottom end.
Niels Kristian Iversen and David Howe took a comfortable 5-1 in Heat 9 to give Wolves a six-point cushion at an important stage of the meeting - but Coventry levelled the scores over the next two heats.
When Hans Andersen locked up on the first turn of Heat 13 the rest of the field thankfully somehow avoided him. He quickly chased down, but the resulting 4-2 gave Wolves a four point margin.
Klindt and Howe split the Bees pairing in Heat 14, meaning Coventry needed a maximum from Heat 15... but Lindgren was in determined mood, flying from the tapes, for an untroubled win, and a precious home victory for the Monmore men.
