Swindon Speedway: 'Summer of Speed Family Day' at Swindon Speedway.

Swindon Speedway is delighted to announce the staging of a 'Summer Of Speed Family Day' on Thursday 21st August when an extensive array of entertainment is guaranteed to create a carnival atmosphere at Blunsdon.

On track, the Robins take on reigning Elite league champions Coventry whilst off track a host of activities promise to make the night a truly memorable occasion.

In conjunction with 'In Swindon', the 'Summer of Speed Family Day' aims to raise money for local charities, this year GWR Kids and 'Street Safe' are set to benefit.

Following the success of last year's spectacular event Swindon Speedway will be opening the turnstiles at the earlier time of 5.30pm, so that supporters can enjoy an evening packed full of off track entertainment. Firstly, fans' will have the opportunity to meet the Robins' rider at an autograph session that commences at 6pm.

International Motocross riders Stephen Sword and Tom Church will also be signing autographs throughout the course of the evening. Stephen Sword is one of Great Britain's best performing motocross racers since the start of the millennium thanks to four top-10 World Championship finishes in the last six years. The Scotsman recently took victory in both MX2 races in round six of the British Motocross Championship at Wiltshire's iconic Foxhill circuit.

Furthermore, the Swindon Wildcats Ice Hockey team will also be signing autographs. Pete Russell's side begin their 08/09 campaign in just four weeks times.

The first of the Family Day's designated charity is GWR Kids. Founded 25 years ago GWR Kids is a charitable organisation committed to helping young people in Wiltshire who are affected by poverty, abuse, neglect, homelessness, violence, crime, illness and disability.

The second designated charity is the 'Street Safe' scheme which aim is to reduce the number of beggars in the town centre. The scheme's principal objective is to ensure that those without a home who suffer with drink or drug habits seek financial and emotional support from local organisations.

Swindon Speedway will be donating the proceeds of the match day 50/50 draw to the two designated charities. Also, in return for a small donation to the two designated charities fans can have their picture taken with the glamorous Miss Swindon, Rebecca Cole

Also performing on the night will be the hugely popular 'Over The Top' motorcycle display team who will performing daring high jumps, wheelies and spectacular stunts using breath-taking skill from 7pm.

Other attractions include, the Swindon Advertiser Bouncy Castle, Swindon Wildcats beat the Goalie and a tapes start speedway track mascot race which is set to include Rocky Robin, Willie the Wildcat, Swindon Advertiser's Alligator and the Pebley Beach's Hippo!

The meeting will also see the final of 'beat the starter', which is a competition where fans get to test their reactions on a speedway bike using a gating simulator.  Fans will be able to enter the Beat the Starter competition during a day of qualifying at Wharf Green in the Swindon Town Centre on Saturday 16th August between 9am and 5pm. Adults and juniors have their own separate classes.

The top four in the adult and junior classes at 5pm on Saturday will then progress through to the final of the event at the Abbey Stadium on Thursday. The grand final which will take place on the centre green has some great prizes up for grabs.

Entry fee for this competition is via a donation to GWR Kids and Street Safe.
