Coventry Speedway: Club Statement - Hans Andersen

COVENTRY owner Allen Trump has clarified the sequence of events which led to new signing Hans Andersen being blocked from appearing at Peterborough on Thursday.

Bees had received approval for his inclusion in the team only for this to subsequently be removed.

Discussions proceeded until the hour before start-time involving the meeting referee, but ultimately the match went ahead with the Panthers being allowed to track their re-declared line-up - but the Buildbase Bees were not.

Trump said: "The Management Committee issued a directive in mid-afternoon on Thursday to referee Tony Steele that Hans was not eligible to ride for Coventry in this meeting.

"I was very disappointed in this ruling as we had previously been given the OK to use Hans. He was here tonight with his bikes, ready to go, and at literally the last minute we were informed that we couldn't use him.

"It was Tony who received the confirmation from Management Committee that Hans couldn't ride, and obviously we queried it and wouldn't accept it.

"There were telephone calls to and from the Chairman and the Vice-Chairman of the BSPA, but ultimately the decision of the Management Committee over-ruled what we had previously been told.

"I don't believe that walking out, in front of what was probably Peterborough's biggest crowd of the season, was really an option - it's always the ultimate option, but it isn't really.

"I know if I was a supporter and the away team pulled out, I wouldn't be very impressed, so I couldn't really consider it as a serious option.

"Hans remained with us throughout the meeting and he was absolutely brilliant. He gelled us together, he helped the riders throughout and was superb with the Coventry lads.

"He makes his debut on Monday along with Filip Sitera so that will be a big night for us against Poole in the Knockout Cup, and we're looking forward to it."
