August 2, 2008 was another weird night of weather in the Southern Tier of NY. All around the track at Action Park East, storms were taking place but fortunately directly over the track it was dry and the race program was able to come off.

In early handicap heat action it was former Canadian Champion, Steve Eaah, who looked sharp after coming out of retirement and taking the win. Mikey Buman and Tuff McBride followed up with second and third with Dave Clark fourth and Russ Cornell fifth. Corey Brookes won his heat race with Lenny McBride close behind in second and Casey Donholt taking third. Adam Mittl was fourth and Dee Holden last.

In the semis for the handicap portion it was Brookes who again impressed as the teenager rode the wheels off of his 250cc laydown to stay ahead of the full size machines and take the victory over Buman. Mittl also transferred with a third place. In semi two it was Eaah with another good outing. He rode the inside position well to earn himself a trip to the final with a win. Back in second was Lenny McBride with Tuff in third. Donholt was unable to transfer with a fourth.

Lenny McBride was perfect in his scratch heat to lead from wire to wire. Chasing him was Buman but he could not get better than second. Clark was third, Brookes fourth and Cornell fifth. Mittl made a start and left the filed in his heat while Donholt grabbed second, Eaah third, Tuff McBride fourth and Holden fifth.

The scratch semis produced a couple surprises. Clark gated and held off the McBride brothers to gain an entry to the Final. Tuff was second and Lenny was third which meant he would have to go to the last chance. In the other semifinal, Donholt was leading when his footpeg came off, dropping him to last place and being done for the night. Buman moved up into first and Mittl was second. olden was fourth.

In the first attempt at the handicap main, Buman was challenging for the lead when he caused a stoppage by getting hooked up with Eaah down the back straight on lap 3. To everyone's surprise there was no penalty and on the second try Eaah fell down in front of  the field on lap two causing a restart. When all was said and done it was the young Brookes on his  JBR/Justice Brothers/Gene the Machine  JAWA who rode superbly  for his second win of the year.

Lenny McBride won the last chance which meant he would have to start from gate five in the main event. Most nights that is not a favored gate choice but McBride used his 20 plus years of experience and made an excellent start from five, trapping the other racers and moving his JBR/Justice Brothers/NGK Spark Plugs/K&N  JAWA into the lead which he never gave up in route to his first Scratch win in 3  years.  Brother Tuff was second and Mittl third. The next race at Action Park on August 16 will hopefully have better weather in the area.
