A quick reminder that the Wightlink Islanders are in action tonight (Tuesday) at the usual start time of 7.30pm when the Newcastle Diamonds become the latest Premier League team to try and end the Wightlink Islanders unbeaten home record this season at the Wave 105 Smallbrook Stadium.
The Wightlink Islanders have no injury problems, will track the same side that defeated Glasgow 51-42 last Tuesday and will be looking to make it 11 home league wins out of 11.
WE HEAD NORTH ON THURSDAY FOR TWO CRUNCH AWAY MATCHES...
Hopefully boosted by another home win tonight, the Wightlink Islanders head north on Thursday for two crunch away matches at Redcar (Thursday) and Scunthorpe the following evening knowing that they must pick up at least one win to stand any realistic chance of reaching the play offs at the end of the season.
Away team manager David Croucher, whilst admitting that both matches will prove tough for skipper Jason Bunyan and his side, is quietly confident that the team can win at both venues providing they ride to their full potential.
"Neither match will be easy with Redcar one place above us in the current league table and Scunthorpe a couple of places below us," he said, "but both have suffered home defeats this year and, if we ride as well as we know we can, then we could well be travelling back with two wins and six valuable league points in our pockets.
"We'll certainly be aiming to achieve that goal!"
CORY CAN'T WAIT!
Popular 21 years old Australian Wightlink Islander Cory Gathercole has a very important appointment at his local Swindon hospital on Wednesday of next week for that is the day that surgeons will remove the pins and wiring from the hand he broke in his first ride of the home win over Scunthorpe at the beginning of last month.
And provided everything goes according to plan, he's hoping to have a try out at skipper Jason Bunyan's Testimonial meeting at the Wave 105 Smallbrook Stadium on August 19.
"That's very much my intention," he said, "but obviously I will have to be guided by the surgeons although unless they tell me I would be stupid to do so, that's very much the plan!
"It's been so frustrating being out of action at this crucial time of the season and really boring too although I've been going over to the island and helping out in the pits at all of our home meetings bearing in mind that with my left hand and arm in plaster I couldn't really sit at home twiddling my thumbs!"
ISLANDERS AIMING TO MAKE REIGNING CHAMPS SEE STARS NEXT TUESDAY...
In what promises to be one of THE home matches of the season next Tuesday, our pumped up side will be looking to put one over the reigning Premier League Champions, the King's Lynn Stars, and put a dent in the Norfolk side's hope of retaining their title.
And skipper Jason Bunyan and his fellow Wightlink Islanders are very determined to do that and erase the memories of last year's encounters on the island between the two sides that saw King's Lynn win the league match 47-42 and hold us to a 45-45 draw in the first leg of the KO Cup semi-final.
It's a somewhat changed Stars side this year though with only classy Czech Republic skipper Tomas Topinka remaining from the side that gained that cup draw last September.
Topinka has formed a powerful double spearhead this season with 27 years old Australian Kevin Doolan who rode for Manchester side Belle Vue Aces in last year's Sky Sports Elite League and King's Lynn include three more Australians in their line up as well.
The first is vastly experienced Rusty Harrison, aged 26, who moved to King's Lynn from Stoke in the winter whilst the second is 21 years old John Oliver whose progress was hampered in the past by a badly broken leg but is now back to full fitness.
Completing their quartet from the Antipodes is youngster Kozza Smith who is aged 20 and has swiftly established himself as a huge favourite with the Norfolk side's fans in his first season of racing in this country.
Their final two team members are both Englishman, the very experienced 33 years old Shaun Tacey whose racing career stretches back to 1992 and actually had a short spell with ourselves in 1997, and teenager Simon Lambert who, at a tender 19 years of age and in his first full season of racing in the Premier League, is widely regarded as one of England's finest young prospects in the sport.
Looking ahead to the match, Wightlink Islanders co-promoter Dave Pavitt said, "It promises to be a really tough match for us indeed for King's Lynn have won three and drawn three of the twelve away matches they've ridden so far this season and are currently fourth in the league table.
"Whilst it's going to be hard, we are confident that we can beat them are are very determined to do so I can assure you and trust me when I say it really is a match to come along and watch!"
AND THERE'S MORE ACTION NEXT THURSDAY AS THE 1000cc MONSTERS HIT TOWN!
As if the mouth-watering prospect of the reigning Premier League Champions coming to town next Tuesday isn't enough to make both island residents and holidaymakers alike head for the Wave 105 Smallbrook Stadium next Tuesday, two days later it's the thrilling prospect of the monster 1000cc sidecars roaring around our 385 metre circuit as the top exponents of this no-holds-barred three wheeled action from both the UK and Australia do battle for the Sidecar Speedway Supercup getting underway at the usual start time of 7.30pm. A full preview of that meeting will be issued later this week
IT'S CERTAINLY ACTION ALL THE WAY UP AND COMING AT THE WAVE 105 SMALLBROOK STADIUM - UNDOUBTEDLY THE PLACE OF PACE!
