Thieves broke into Weymouth Wildcats speedway rider Luke Priests van today stealing over £2000 of equipment and causing damage to the vehicles door in the process. Luke and his family stopped for a break at Manchester Birch Services, West bound on the M62 after hearing the Redcar v Newcastle meeting had been called off at approximately 4.30pm.
A dejected Luke said “We only stopped for ten minutes and returned to find the thieves had prised open the sliding door on the van breaking the lock and had stolen my kit bag. Most of the items are personalised and virtually useless except for the helmets. They took 2 pairs of Kevlar’s, 1 pair of boots, a steel shoe all my body armour my wash bag and several other items including two very expensive helmets. I am gutted as it all has to be replaced and I have two meetings this weekend which doesn’t give me much time! On top of that we now have to get the door repaired.”
