Weymouth Wildcats captured their first piece of silverware last Saturday when the quartet of Karl Mason, Luke Priest and Aussie brothers Jay and Lee Herne won the Kingswood Hotel South West Fours. On a balmy summer evening at the Wessex Stadium, Lee Herne rounded off his short spell with the Wildcats with a heat win in a last heat decider snatching victory from his father Phil’s former club the Bristol Bulldogs. Brother Jay also had a productive meeting and was unbeaten all night.
Lee headed back to Australia the following day, so Andrew Bargh now steps into the vital number one slot. Jem Dicken Wildcats team manager said, “Andrew Bargh has been putting in some great performances for us and is a worthy replacement as our number one. Looking forward to the next few weeks, the league meetings are coming thick and fast starting with this Saturdays home meeting Boston with the second leg the following day. I am very hopeful of getting the three points on offer at Saddlebow Road although it will be a very tough encounter. Jay Herne has seemed to turn his early season below par performances around and is now scoring heavily. Luke Priests form seems to be a bit up and down and is a bit of a concern but he has been making some Premier League guest appearances which should help his confidence as he has been on the pace”.
